Intel Corporation today formally announced availability of Intel Celeron processor clocked at 2.70GHz for desktop and mobile personal computers. The 2.70GHz mark means that in about five a half years of existence Celeron family managed to multiply its initial clock-speed of 266MHz by more than ten resulting in a massive gain in performance.
The new Celeron processor at 2.70GHz does not bring anything innovative from technological point of view, except the working frequency. The chips still feature Socket 478 packaging, 400MHz Quad Pumped Bus and 128KB of Advanced Transfer L2 cache. Just like the predecessors at 2.60GHz and below that came earlier this year as well as 2.80GHz CPU that is due later this year, the 2.70GHz Celeron is still produced at 0.13 micron technology.
In 1000-unit quantities, the Intel Celeron processor at 2.70GHz is priced at $103. Needless to say that the novelty is available now across the whole world.
