While the Conroe processors haven’t been officially announced yet, the only way for the users to get hold of this promising baby is to participate in an eBay auction, where these solutions appear on sale every now and then. Some time ago they were offering Core E6300 (1.86GHz) CPU, and now you get a chance to purchase a Core E6600 (2.4GHz) processor with 4MB of L2 cache and 1066MHz bus.

The owner of this CPU lives in Las Vegas and he is ready to pass it on for at least $750. You can purchase this CPU immediately for $799. I have to say that this is far not the highest price they ask for solutions like that: some time ago there was a similar CPU selling for $850. The auction is over tomorrow and the CPU may not find a new owner for this money. Looks like the “gray market” pricing will go down as the launch date approaches.
As you remember, the upcoming Conroe processors require a corresponding mainboard and the only solution available today is Intel D975XBX revision 304. a little bit later other mainboards will come out, and among them will be the budget solutions from ASRock.

I am surprised this site doesn't buy the Conroe and a motherboard, and benchmark it.
You'd have access to information that the rest of the net would love to have, and while it might cost more money than you'd like to spend, you'd gain readership for sure because other sites would mention it in their news.
It's a small investment to increase your readership appreciably, plus later on you can sell it since engineering samples of chips typically sell for a nice chunk of change, especially a processor as incredible as the P8.
I am shocked no site has bought this yet, if I were starting up a site, I would do it in a heartbeat. It would gain instant traffic and credibility. I guess people are so cheap they can not see the bigger picture sometimes, otherwise one site or another would buy it.
