Building on the recent Centrino 2 launch for notebook PCs in July, Intel unveiled their first mobile-focused quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme processor. This allowed the company to announce their new mobile workstations concept. However, even though the products include four cores, they only use 45 watts of power, thanks to progressive 45nm manufacturing process. The new mobile Core 2 Extreme QX9300 has an unlocked multiplier, should work at 2.53 GHz with 1066MHz bus and features 2 x 6MB L2 cache. Its official price is set at $1038.
Besides that, Intel also announced another mobile quad-core CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9100. This processor also has a 45W TDP, but works at 2.26 GHz. The price of this model is set at $851.
Intel also introduced the company's second-generation 45nm dual-core mobile processors for increasingly popular ultra thin and light notebook PCs. For example, these processors will go into notebooks like the new ThinkPad X301 announced this week, or into the next version of the MacBook Air, according to some rumors.
While the TDP of the basic mobile dual-core processors is set at 35W, new mobile Core 2 Duo SP9400 and SP9300 have 25W TDP, work at 2.4 and 2.26 GHz frequencies and are priced at $316 and $284 respectively. The SL9400 and SL9300 processors have a thermal envelope of 17 watts. The SL9400 runs at 1.86GHz and is priced at $316. The SL9300 is clocked at 1.6GHz and priced at $284. All four processors have 6MB of L2 cache.
Further down the power scale, the SU9400 and SU9300 are rated at only 10 watts and have clock speeds of 1.4GHz and 1.2GHz, respectively. The SU9400 is set at $289, while the SU9300 goes for $262. Both have 3MB of cache memory.
Moreover, there also appeared a new 45nm single-core mobile CPU. It is Core 2 Solo SU3300 clocked at 1.2 GHz and featuring 3MB L2 cache. They managed to set its TDP as low as 5.5W because of only one physical core. This processor is priced at $262.
