Advanced Micro Devices on Thursday announced the shipment of its 500 millionth x86 processor, a milestone enabled by the company's 40 years of successful operations. Back in the days, AMD’s processor only enabled simplistic personal computers, but today AMD’s chips can be found inside complex servers or super-computers.

Quite a lot has happened with AMD in its first 40 years. At the moment, AMD is converting itself into a supplier of various computing solutions, in 2006 AMD acquired ATI Technologies with an aim to converge central processing units with graphics processing units. Eventually, however, the acquisition forced AMD to spin-off its manufacturing facilities into Globalfoundries joint-venture.

In order to reward the loyal customers who helped AMD reach this milestone, the company is giving back to its fans by offering the chance to win four HP Pavilion dv2z notebooks, based on AMD's platform for ultrathin notebooks. Terms and conditions to win the laptops are located here.
