Although Advanced Micro Devices these days is shifting focus from pure central processing units (CPUs) to accelerated processing units (APUs) with integrated graphics cores that can speed up select applications, the company continues to sell CPUs not only to performance enthusiasts, but to mainstream users as well. This week the first AMD Athlon processor based on Richland design, but without graphics, emerged for sale. is currently selling quad-core AMD Athlon X4 760K Black Edition processor (AD760KWOHLBOX) with 3.80GHz default clock-rate (and 4.10GHz Turbo Core frequency), 4MB L2 cache (512KB L2 per core), 100W thermal design power, Turbo Core 3.0 dynamic acceleration technology as well as unlocked multiplier. The chip should be drop-in compatible with mainboards featuring FM2 sockets.

The recommended retail price of the Athlon X4 760K microprocessor is claimed to be £86.25 ($135.2), but sells it for £64.86 ($101.7) with the promise to dispatch it within two to three weeks. Given that the store offers AMD A8-6600K “Richland” APU with 3.90GHz default frequency and Radeon HD graphics engine for £97.71 ($153.54), the cost of the Athlon X4 760K seems normal. In addition, at least one seller is offering the same central processing units at Ebay UK, reports CPU World web-site.

Since AMD formally unveiled fully-fledged desktop Richland APUs earlier this month, the emergence of the cut-down version clearly indicates that the chips have been in production for several months now and AMD can fulfill demand for both APUs and CPUs based on the new design.

The new AMD Athlon X4 760K processor should deliver even better overclockability than the units with integrated graphics and can therefore power inexpensive PCs used mostly for games. Given the fact that the chips do not feature integrated graphics adapter, such computers will need a discrete graphics card, which cost will clearly be higher than that of an integrated graphics engine. Still, those, who already have a decent graphics adapter and want an inexpensive CPU, the new Athlon X4 may be an interesting option.

That's very unlikely seeming as i3 is only dual core. Not to mention these chips have a MUCH higher frequency and higher overclocking headroom.

You say that this is unlikely without showing any evidence

i3 3220 compete very well against A10-5800

I feel you but wait a second and hear me out:

Athlon X4 740 80$ quad core that i can definitely recommend, for budget build, 65W its basically an a8-5500 without the GPU and FM-2 sockets motherboard are Great and reidcuolusy cheap, and it also power effienct like the i3`s 100% (40W idle - 90W Load)and have all the instruction sets.

IF the above 110 USD motherboard was an intel one it will cost 200 USD and you know it

And according to Anandtech:

And i quote :

"f I were gaming today on a single GPU, the A8-5600K (or non-K equivalent) would strike me as a price competitive choice for frame rates"

So the above setup with AMD hd 7750 that cost 100 USD = 80 + 110 + 100 + 10 (shipping/taxes)= 300 USD

A powerful and mighty legacy of AMD price/performance compare this to the phenom x955 series

i reckon i just spazed you

1.if u r working on linux than A10 5700 is better than i3 coz windows is tailored for intel cpu.

just no. Intel's Linux drivers are open-source only so they get the support from Intel + community.
those drivers are far better than any other driver of any other gpu in linux. Intel's driver in linux are even better than those in windows. far more stable and with completed features.

P.S. if you want to check benchmarks, check those who are compiled with gcc or llvm or any other *opensource* compiler so you will get an unbiased result. there are sites that do those kind of staff like phoronix.

"wow i just posted a comment that i3 is better than this X4 760K just to check how many likes and dislikes will come. i got 1 like and 2 dislike means on this site intelligent peoples are twice than fanboys."
Actually now there are 4 times more intelligent people than fanboys.

i5 is best for gaming and pentium dual core is better than this buggy an also better than AMD 16 core opetron.
amd cpu are for poors

Athlon X2 are one of the successful product AMD family i known that will compete against Intel Core 2.

Naming it as X4 can attract new customers
