The number two microprocessor manufacturer in the world today announced its first 0.13 microns processor intended for servers and workstations. The new Athlon MP 2200+ is based on the latest Thoroughbred core and manufactured using copper process in Fab 30. The specifications of the newcomer are obvious: 1800MHz clock-speed, 256KB of L2 cache, 266MHz system bus.

Servers and workstations will take immediate advantage of decreased power-consuming and heat-dissipation of the newcomer.

According to the official statement made by AMD today, systems featuring the AMD Athlon MP processor 2200+ are expected to be available immediately from more than 34 manufacturers world-wide. At the same time with the announcement of the new CPU, AMD has declined server processors pricing. The following prices for the quantities starting from 1000 pieces are now effective:

Athlon MP 2200+ - $224;
Athlon MP 2100+ - $206;
Athlon MP 2000+ - $178;
Athlon MP 1900+ - $170;
Athlon MP 1800+ - $161;
Athlon MP 1600+ - $149.

All AMD Athlon MP processors are proposed to use with AMD760MPX core-logic. Since this chipset does not support 333MHz FSB, and AMD has no plans to introduce any updated version of it, we can state that AMD will not implement faster processor bus for its MP line of CPUs.
