There have been some rumors on the web about the new AMD Athlon XP 2400+ coming out only in October. This processor will be based on the 0.13micron Thoroughbred core and is most likely to support 333MHz bus, as we read over here.

As you remember, the actual frequency of Athlon XP 2400+ should equal to 1933MHz if AMD’s calculations and formulas are correct. At the same time, the shift to 333MHz bus seems to be most logical for the 2GHz processor rates as 2500+ (in this case the required multiplier will be equal to 12x, and not to the awkward fractional number as for the 1933MHz model). However, first AMD is usually treating its performance rating very frivolously, so we won’t be surprised to find out that they have changed the calculating scheme, for instance. Second, the move of the Athlon processor to new 333MHz bus is a very unlikely thing for the reasons mentioned above. However, the Thoroughbred core still implies that it can work with 333MHz bus, and it is to be determined by the situation in the market at launch whether it will be involved or not.

In my turn, I dare doubt the info about Athlon XP 2400+ coming out in October. According to the latest version of AMD’s official plans, which we have already shared with you, the CPU with 2400+ rating is to come in Q3 this year. October is Q4 already, so Athlon XP 2400+ will still be released earlier. Of course, if AMD didn’t discover any problems with the core revision, which should be used in high-performance CPUs based on Thoroughbred.
