AMD ClawHammer Received its Official Brand-Name. [11/19/2002 04:16 PM]

AMD today officially unveiled the name of their desktop and x86-64 microprocessors formerly known as ClawHammer. Apparently, the company decided not to introduce something brand new and will call their new chips as Athlon 64 processors. Since the trademark is well-known, there is no sense to start pushing anything else. For instance, Intel’s Pentium brand name has been used for almost a decade.

The x86-64 family of CPUs, including Athlon 64 and Opteron microprocessors, will make their appearance in the first half next year.
