As we remember, AMD promised to start selling their Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+ processors in September. On Friday I even wondered where were the new CPUs, since I had not seen them anywhere for sale. Well, today I have to admit that the Sunnyvale based CPU maker keeps its words and starts retailing the products during the indicated timeframe. According to this price-search system from Estonia, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+ can be bought from a local computer store for $305 and $470 accordingly.

I would stress that our observers have not seen such processors anywhere in the world yet. There are no mentions about AMD’s latest CPUs on Pricewatch.com and they are absent at Akihabara (Japan), the biggest computer market-place in the world. Since Estonia is not among the countries where the latest computer components often appear right after the announcement, we expect the novelties to be available around Europe during this week.<%BANNER[article]%>

Unfortunately, the cost of obtaining exclusively the latest processors from AMD is rather high: 58% more than the official price from AMD. However, there is less than a month before AMD reveals their Athlon XP with 333MHz system-bus, it is clear that with the announcement of new and more powerful models, the prices on the current line of products will be declined considerable, hence, a lot more consumers will be able to get a very fast CPU from AMD.

The retailer said that the processors are available for pre-order and will be delivered in one to three days. It is a common practice in Estonia to sell expensive computer components by pre-order.
