AMD Announces New Athlon XP-M Processors
<%BANNER[article]%>AMD decided to make changes to the line of its CPUs with low power consumption. From now, all such chips from AMD will be branded as Athlon XP-M processors; however, AMD will aim different processors at different segments of the market by adding a “tag” word to the brand-name. There will be Athlon XP-M Desktop Replacement (DTR), Athlon XP-M Mainstream and Athlon XP-M Low Voltage processors.
All processors are priced differently depending on their market segments.
AMD Athlon XP-M Desktop Replacement processors are available in different flavors and designed for use in ordinary desktop personal computers. Thanks to lower power consumption, the new processors will not require a very powerful cooling solution even for the highest-end CPUs.
The processors will be priced as follows:
AMD Athlon XP-M Mainstream processors are intended for use in full-size mainstream notebooks. The chips consume even less energy than DTR CPUs, support PowerNow! technology and are also available in various versions. Take a look at the prices:
AMD Athlon XP-M Low Voltage processors are designed for Thin-and-Light Notebooks. CPUs with 1800+, 1700+, 1600+, 1500+ and 1400+ model numbers will feature micro-PGA packaging and support PowerNow! technology. This marks the first time AMD mobile processors will be featured in thin-and-light notebooks weighing less than four pounds, providing outstanding portability and extended system battery life. AMD Athlon XP-M Low Voltage processors are priced considerably higher in comparison to other models and cannot boast with really high speed.
Notebooks and personal computers based on the latest mobile chips from AMD are available from numerous vendors.
