Dell Computer, who ceased to manufacture Intel Itanium-based machines in the past and who expressed interest to sell Itanium 2 powered computers last year, demonstrated its own server utilising Intel Itanium 2 at Microsoft Windows Server 2003 launch on Thursday, 24th of April.

From the day Itanium 2 was announced Dell has been reiterating its commitment to this architecture, however, it took it nearly a year to demonstrate its product using this IA64 CPU.

A Dell representative said that the company expected to sell Itanium 2-based servers to the high-performance computing market (of course, where else Dell  may offer a beast that costs several thousands of US Dollars?), but declined to comment which Itanium 2 processor will be utilised. Since Dell launches its IA64 server later this year, I suppose that the number two PC vendor in the world will build its new machine using more advanced versions of the Itanium 2 processors, code-named Madison with up to 6MB of L3 cache and up to 1.50GHz frequency.
