A representative from Advance Micro Devices said there is no performance rating formula for the yet-unannounced AMD Athlon 64 processors. The statement contradicts to our June 25th news-story published with reference to a French web-site.
<%BANNER[article]%>According to the AMD official, the company constantly tracks performance offered by its products and makes decisions about performance ratings also known as model numbers when the products are about to release. When the CPU developer sees that performance rating does not reflect the speed of a microprocessor, it changes the clock-speed or bus-speed. For instance, last year we though that AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor would be clocked at 1933MHz (see our AMD Athlon 2200+ Processor Review), but AMD decided to boost its frequency up to 2000MHz (see our AMD Athlon XP 2400+/2600+ Review) indeed.
On the whole, it would be great if AMD bumped Athlon 64 some extra megahertz or improved its efficiency in order to boost performance. Though, there is no official information concerning such improvements. But in fact, that perfectly makes sense.
