The largest microprocessor maker in the world – Intel Corporation – today released its Celeron processor at 2.80GHz for value systems. The chip is expected to be the last processor to be introduced by the Santa Clara, California-based giant this year and also the very last Celeron CPU speed-grade made using 0.13 micron process technology.

The VCore of the newly released chip is 1.525V, its Thermal Design Power is 68.4W. The Intel Celeron 2.80GHz microprocessor is drop-in compatible with i845-, i865-series of chipsets and other similar platforms for Intel Socket 478 processors from companies like VIA, SiS or ATI Technologies.
2.80GHz is expected to be the last step for Northwood-128 core, as the 3.06GHz Celeron processor will already be based on the Prescott-256 core made using 90nm process technology to be uncovered early next year.
