Advanced Micro Devices has expanded its list of validated server makers from one to four participants. From now on, AMD will have four partners who make validated servers designed for AMD Opteron chips that have been rapidly gaining popularity in the enterprise sector in the last 1.5 years.

The program guarantees that solution providers – those who sell servers directly to clients – obtain qualified, reliable, stable and well-supported server solutions based on single- and dual-core AMD Opteron processors. VSP systems are thoroughly tested for quality, compatibility, longevity and stability and are backed by global manufacturers who provide world-class service and support.
While Tyan and Uniwide have been supporters of AMD’s server platforms for years now, Supermicro is generally known as one of the main system builders of Intel Xeon-based servers. Joining of the VSP further outlines success of AMD’s server business. According to Mercury Research, AMD shipped 16.4% of x86 server processors in Q4 2005.
The VSP program was launched in June 2003, connecting solution providers with servers from Newisys, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanmina-SCI. Newisys is an original design manufacturer providing server and storage systems for leading original equipment manufacturers and system builders.
