XGI Technology, a graphics chip designer and producer of graphics cards, announced on Tuesday its new Volari Z7 graphics processor that is positioned to serve “specialized markets”, but not in typical personal computers that are shipped in volume.

Volari Z7 is a tailor made GPU for the server, thin client, and other specialized markets; the flexible design along with many product advantages allows XGI to fulfill its diverse product line. The Volari Z7 does not support any 3D capabilities, such as Direct3D, just like graphics cards like ATI RADEON 7000.

This design’s elasticity allows better accommodations to our client’s needs and extends their product life cycles. Volari Z7 supports PCI bus with extra stability, it also supports DDR/DDR2/GDDR3, 8-128MB of RAM with 16/32 bit bus. XGI packs the Volari V7 into a form-factor that simplifies the design of graphics cards.

“Based on our notebook GPU technology advancements, Volari Z7 guarantees lower power consumption, lower thermal requirements, and higher stability. Our goals are to continuously improve and to fully satisfy our diverse clients,” the XGI spokesman said.

Volari Z7 supports up to 1600x1200 display resolution and fully support Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2003 Server EM64T, RHEL 3.0, RHEL 3.0 EM64T, RHEL 4.0, NetWare 6.5 (Dos Mode), SUSE 9, DOS, and future platforms. Currently, Z7 supports AMD64 and will support IA64 in the future.
