In an attempt to offer something unique and extreme, PowerColor, a leading supplier of ATI Radeon graphics cards, has demonstrated a dual-chip graphics card that supports twelve monitors. The product is the world’s first single-board solution supporting such excessive amount of displays.

PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 5970 Eyefinity 12 graphics card with two Cypress graphics processors carries 4GB of GDDR5 memory on a print-circuit board that resembles reference design by ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. Other specifications – apart from the number of displays supported and the amount of memory – are unknown at the moment.

ATI Eyefinity technology supported by Cypress graphics processing unit (GPU) allows to plug up to six displays to a single graphics chip, thus, two of such chips can potentially support up to twelve displays. However, the solution may not be intended for gamers with no limits of budget in mind. ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology only allows rendering to up to three monitors at the same time, hence, it will not be possible to play on up to twelve monitors using PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 5970 Eyefinity 12 graphics card, at least unless ATI enables this in its drivers.

Pricing of the solution and its estimated time of announcement are unclear.

is this a really late April fools joke? The 6 port cards were already failing pretty hard and with all the technical issues like with cross hair I can't see why anyone would buy this crap.
