Palit First to Release GeForce GTX 460 with 2GB of Memory in the U.S.
[08/10/2010 03:13 PM]Nvidia Corp.'s GeForce GTX 460 graphics processing unit (GPU) turned out to be pretty successful thanks to moderate pricing as well as high performance compared to closest competitors. In order to differentiate themselves from rivals, graphics cards makers started to install increased amount of memory onto GTX 460 models.
Palit, one of the largest partners of Nvidia, on Tuesday started to sell its Palit GeForce GTX 460 Sonic 2GB graphics board that carries 2GB of 3.60GHz GDDR5 memory onboard along with GeForce GTX 460 processor clocked at 700MHz, which is a little higher compared to Nvidia-recommended clock-speed. The company hopes that enlarged memory buffer and non-reference cooling system will attract attention to the product.
Considering the fact that Palit owns Gainward graphics cards supplier, it is highly likely that going forward the latter will also release 2GB version of GeForce GTX 460 graphics board with considerably increased clock-speed. Other makers of premium graphics cards will also start to sell graphics adapters based on Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 with 2GB memory buffer shortly.
It should be noted that far not all games truly need 2GB of memory. On the other hand, the recommended pricing of Palit GeForce GTX 460 Sonic 2GB is just $259, which is just $20 higher compared to the reference 1GB model designed by Nvidia, so, the little benefit will come at a small price.
