Advanced Micro Devices this week slashed prices on its enthusiast-class and high-end graphics cards that belong to Radeon HD 7900 and 7800 families. As a result of the price-cut, the new graphics cards for gamers that are based on GCN (graphics core next) architecture can be acquired for as low as $249, whereas the top-of-the-range solution costs $499.

From now on, AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition will cost $499, the Radeon HD 7970 will be priced at $429 and the Radeon HD 7950 will have recommended price of $349. In addition, with the purchase of the Radeon HD 7900-series graphics cards, AMD will provide [while stocks last] three DirectX 11 game titles: Dirt Showdown, Nexuiz and Deus Ex: Human Revolution with The Missing Link downloadable add-on.

The high-end Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition will carry official price-tag of $299, while the Radeon HD 7850 will be priced at $249. With the HD 7800-series graphics adapters AMD will bundle Dirt Showdown video-game.

AMD previously slashed prices of its graphics cards in mid-April, around three months from now. Given the fact that not a lot of consumers buy graphics boards in the middle of Summer, it is about time for AMD to reduce prices of its graphics solutions.

The new Radeon HD 7700-, 7800- and 7900-series graphics cards support all the advantages that the graphics core next (GCN) architecture has to offer, including support for DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2, PCI Express 3.0, AMD Eyefinity 2.0, ultra high-definition output support using DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4a, optimized power consumption, integrated 7.1 audio controller, stereo-3D/Blu-ray 3D support, and other new technologies.
