Several add-in graphics cards partners of Advanced Micro Devices this week unveiled the special edition versions of the Radeon HD 7870 graphics cards based on Tahiti LE graphics processing units (GPUs). The new graphics chips feature 1536 stream processors and provides improved performance compared to regular models HD 7870.

Club3D this week introduced Radeon HD 7870 jokerCard Limited Edition, whereas PowerColor launched PCS+ HD7870 Myst. Edition graphics cards that are both based on Tahiti LE processors. The Tahiti LE GPUs (which are cut-down from Tahiti XT chips) feature 1536 stream processors, 96* texture units, 20* raster operation units and 256-bit memory controller as well as are clocked at 925MHz by default and up to 975MHz in GPU Boost mode. The graphics cards based on Radeon HD 7870 HD “Tahiti LE” are equipped with 2GB of 6GHz GDDR5 memory.

“The Club 3D Radeon HD 7870 jokerCard delivers exceptional performance at 15% faster compared to the standard GeForce GTX 660 and delivers astonishing performance at an incredible value,” a statement by Club3D reads.

Since graphics cards with Club3D and PowerColor brands are manufactured by Tul Corp., the Radeon HD 7870 jokerCard Limited Edition and PCS+ HD7870 Myst. Edition should be very similar. For example, both utilize efficient cooling system with 92mm ultra large fan design, which easily takes away the excessive heat from cooling solution with SSU-shape heat pipes.

It is interesting to note that both partners of Tul Corp. use Radeon HD 7870 model number in the name of their Tahiti LE-based solutions. It is unknown whether other AIB manufacturers will also use similar branding, or will introduce Radeon HD 7890 models.

There are no officially recommended pricing of the Tahiti LE-based solutions, but probably their price should be a little higher compared to the GeForce GTX 660.
