Nvidia Corp. is readying something brand-new, but this is not exactly a graphics processing unit, according to a vice president of Epic Games. In the recent years the company most known for its GeForce graphics introduced a number of products beyond simple graphics chips, but it obviously takes something to impress Mark Rein.

“Earlier this week I saw the most amazing thing made by @Nvidia – no, it is not a GPU, but gamers will love it,” said Mark Rein in a post in his Twitter.

At present X-bit labs does not know what Nvidia is going to reveal in the coming weeks. What we do know is that an announcement in the coming weeks is coming.

In the recent years Nvidia introduced a number of products and technologies that did impress. Among the hardware things, the company launched Shiled video game console as well as Tegra Note media tablet this year. Previously, the company released a number of proprietary software-hardware technologies, such as 3D Vision, CUDA, PhysX and some others. All of them are aimed at gamers. For professionals, Nvidia unleashed an even higher number of other promising technologies during the same timeframe.

The Internet community is currently full of various speculations regarding the product Nvidia is going to announce. The forecasts mention a virtual reality helmet, a Steam Box game console designed in coalition with Valve, an incredible high-resolution stereo-3D display as well as many other things that a PC gamer might want. Obviously, this may just be Nvidia’s next-gen application processor for mobile devices that is projected to be pretty impressive.

Nvidia did not comment on the news-story.

I was the first who celebrated when fermi based hpc cards launched, when cuda launched,,,,,frnd i always say that nvidia hv best hpc, workstation portfolio but now things r changing amd is doing more and more innovation every year where intel, nvidia upgrading existing system, amd is innovating in new dimensions.

1. arm holding desperatly want to do partnership with amd not with nvidia.they announced amd as their most valuable server partner, they will develop next gen design with help of amd, instructions, memory subsystems, interconnects etc.
They joined amd's hsa foundation not nvidia's camp simply means all upcoming arm designs will be based on amd's hsa design standards and samsung,Qualcomm, mediatek,TI also did same.

2.amd's gpu wing(ati) is not like their cpu wing(s****) ati take risks, accept challenges then make that happen-first on 55nm,40 nm,28nm,unified shader, produce more colors,hw tessellation(on directx9 lineup),hsa etc. That's all in very tight budget they hv one fourth r&d budget of nvidia(that matters).

And i want to make one thing very clear that i m not fanboy of amd, intel or nvidia but yes i m surely fanboy of innovation, good products and loyal business practice

And why nowadays i favours amd coz just see - on one side amd is bleeding badly even they r selling their buildings while on other side they r setting new benchmark of success without doing any unfair business practice.

Volcanic Island is just weak response to Kepler. AMD is unable to move tech to next gen 20nm process. It is joke company, all know this. NV is full of innovation, and is able to prepare interesting products.
6 6 [Posted by: Tristan  | Date: 09/22/13 01:04:38 AM]
How much did you get paid to write this?

If AMD is so counter-innovative, how come they can compete with nvidia with 1/4 the resources?
4 5 [Posted by: evernessince  | Date: 09/22/13 06:20:49 AM]
Probably not much because it is so unconvincing.
3 1 [Posted by: linuxlowdown  | Date: 09/22/13 12:09:13 PM]
And why does AMD have 1/4 of Nvdia's resources? Because they run their company like shit. They make poor business decisions like it's a philosophy. They should be swimming in money by now and instead they are always strapped for cash. The company is run by morons. I feel sorry for their excellent engineers who have to deal with the idiots running that company.

Dude, even I prefer AMD/ATI but what you wrote couldn't be more filled with crap.

1. Nvidia is just dominating the Professional market and is far better situated then AMD at this. Not even mentioning Tegra or project denver and whatever they might come up with.
2.The developers may be focusing on CGN 1.0 optimizations, no one knows how future AMD GPUs will profit from it, nor will we know if there is a BIG benefit behind it, all we know is that even though games were optimized for Nvidias GPUs for more than a decade now thanks to programs like "The way it is meant to be played", and their newer one, we still always saw AMD/ATI having a chance, so optimizations aren't everything.
PLUS: Konsoles like the PS4 are programmed in OpenGL and we all know that AMD only has about 70% of the OpenGL performance as Nvidia has, plus worse drivers. On PC, we use Direct X so it is yet to see, if ANY of the GPU oriented optimizations will be beneficial for the AMD PC CPUs, and if so only under OpenGL - and as stated above, even if you optimize for AMD and OpenGL, Nvidia would still likely be faster (just check out some games under OpenGL, or Linux/Mac Steam Games)
3. wrong: if they keep spending money on optimizations for their GPUs as well, just like before, there will be an even outcome of that race.
4. and hundreds or thousands other companies will use Nvidia, cause of their lead in the professional market.
5. fun fact for you: they don't need an Answer to Volcanic Island. And you know why? Because actually Volcanic Island is AMDs answer to what Nvidia released almost 1.5 years ago.
When the 680 was released it was FASTER and requred LESS POWER then what AMD has at the market since then. And it got worse with the follow up of Nvidia.
So whatever Volcanic Island is, it is already known it will still be 28nm - it will get CLOSE OR SAME performance than the not really new architectures of Nvidia.

I got as far as "every game run fluently on nexus7 so why anyone buy shield." and realised you are beyond ignorant. Shield's biggest selling point is the ability to use it to play the games in your steam library via streaming from your PC.

Its a Freakin' dual Titan (Gk110) GPU video card! As PUBLISHED on nVidia's GTX Facebook page. Why would they post it on that page? They could've created a separate new page for it for increased hype and publicity right? Oh Well.. whatever it is, it's gonna be one fast GTX video card faster than GTX780 and Titan... :-)

So what you're saying is that the dual Titan isn't a GPU. Interesting.

I meant, Two Titan (GK110) placed in a single PCB... kinda like GeForce 690. Sorry for not making it much clearer... :-)
3 1 [Posted by: Rock N Rolla  | Date: 09/21/13 11:32:18 PM]

I could speculate a number of things:

(1) from Tegra line for first time.
(2) Made...decision to pull out of GPU race due to too much heat from AMD HSA.
(3)'s first penis prostheses with embedded Tegra and Android App, conceived ostensibly by Nvidia engineers for Mr Huang's long suffering wife.

Have I missed any other things it could be?

Most hilarious Mr.Linuxlowdown, as I speculatively posted earlier Nv have nothing till very late[?]2014 with Maxwell on 0.2. AMD's back-up plan to do VI on 0.28 means a suprise early release, and by the time Maxie comes out PI on 0.2 should be ready. Ooops.
3 1 [Posted by: TopHatKiller  | Date: 09/21/13 06:43:12 PM]

Unforutnately Nvidia is desperate for attention and sales. With AMD's Hawaii release bash in Hawaii, Nvidia is basically SOL and sales will tank even further as Volcanic Island models will perform better and cost less.

With discrete GPU sales looking to be minute as APUs grow, Nvidia no longer has a viable Biz model.

The Hawaii release was not a ultra bash like what you said from the looks of the videos.

nVidia as a business overall is doing great compared to AMD that just stays a float. The graphics department of AMD keeps AMD a float. AMD's CPU and APU business is nose diving AMD into the ground. AMD's business model is what the hell are they doing because it does not make logical sense.

What will be a surprise from nVidia is a notebook computer using their latest processor or cost reasonable external graphics card that uses Thunderbolt.

Hey dummy, are you not aware that Nvidia makes good profits year after year, while AMD is struggling to survive and is usually bleeding money year after year? Seriously you are acting like AMD is making all this money and Nvidia is on the verge of bankruptcy. I have bad news for you, it's the exact opposite of what you think it is.

Maybe if Jen Sung Haung was running AMD they would probably be making all kinds of money, because he seems to know what he's doing. But AMD is run by a bunch of bozos who don't know what they're doing. AMD has great engineers and make great GPU's but their leadership is lost.

As an Nvidia user I certainly hope NOT, Need strong competition so none of us consumers get screwed in prices!
AMD is not finished in gpu's, Not a chance.
They have their chips in latest consoles, Soon be bringing in the money so they can develope next gen gpu's.

LOL Wat??
If you mean the first truly 3D GPU, that would be the 3dFX's VooDoo GPU released in 1996, that was the biggest PC revolution back then. Nvidia came much, much later, and they could only beat 3DFx in 1999 with their Geforce 256 GPU. Until then 3DFx was the king.
2 1 [Posted by: TAViX  | Date: 09/22/13 03:02:53 AM]
NVIDIA coined the term GPU to describe the GeForce 256, so technically it's the first GPU. No other company called its graphics chip a GPU before that.

That of course doesn't mean much except that NVIDIA is good at marketing.

AMD can play with names/abbreviations APU, VPU ... that is for sure.
But not very good at innovation.
AMD GPU consume too much power and are slow every body knows that

remember the commando spot for a very hot Nvidia gpu back in the days? AMD is now king, Nvidia only has a better support team, for now, and developers are lazy and some, in higher decision positions, even corruptible.End of story.

VR headset or new Nvidia 3d glasses mark III
Quad HD display seeing as latest drivers have a lot of 4k support in there.
New mobile processor.

Hmmm interesting what it might be, All I am after though is oculus rift or a 4k monitor that does 120hz

Heads up Guys, as far as competition and performance is
concerned with regards to the Titan and the up coming Radeon
Hawaii gpu I think peeps at nVidia are very disappointed with
this, that's why they are coming up with a new faster video
card that is much faster than the Titan.

AMD's "possibly" a Titan killer, on 512bit memory bus...

I think it must be shadowplay for game recording. I got a gt 650m laptop gpu and desktop gtx 670 both kepler gpus. This has been delayed since release date so finally I hope this is what they are releasing so I can play and record easily. Great for gamers.
