S3 Graphics, a designer of graphics processors and a subsidiary of Via Technologies, on Friday said that it had partnered with Presagis, a provider of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) modeling, simulation and embedded display graphics software, to deliver an optimized display driver for the S3 Graphics 2300E GPU in safety-critical avionics applications.
“S3 Graphics is excited to join Presagis at the forefront of next generation avionics and safety-critical application development. With deep expertise in providing certifiable solutions, Presagis can help S3 Graphics deliver its unique low-power GPU solutions to aviation and other safety-critical customers,” said Dr. Ken Weng, general manager of S3 Graphics
Presagis will provide associated services for the S3 Graphics 2300E GPU, including customized porting support, essential for customers assembling proprietary hardware systems. The new driver solution is particularly well-suited for safety-critical applications in avionics that use DO-178B and DO-254 certified applications. S3 Graphics will provide Presagis and customers with the data required to meet these certification standards up through Design Assurance Level A.
S3 Graphics 2300E is a DirectX 9.0c/OpenGL 1.5-class graphics processor with high-definition video support. The chip can hardly be sold on the market of personal computers nowadays, however, it may still see success on the market of embedded devices.
“The S3 Graphics 2300E is the ideal GPU solution for customers looking to certify their safety-critical applications, offering a genuinely coherent architecture backed by outstanding technical support and committed product longevity,” said Robert Kopersiewich, vice president and general manager of embedded graphics at Presagis.
S3 Graphics and Via Technologies will demonstrate next-generation avionics using an optimized S3 Graphics 2300E graphics chip at ESC Silicon Valley 2010 conference.
