The biggest mainboard makers in Asia recently announced their results for the year 2002. All members of the “Big Four” last year enjoyed sales and revenues growth. Because of generally slow personal computer market the growth was not really substantial, however, the companies landed numerous OEM orders from the world’s biggest vendors what means that once computer market rebounds, their sales will improve greatly.

Reportedly ASUSTeK sold nearly 17.8 million of mainboards last year (including those sold with barebone systems). ECS came with the same result according to the company itself. The third mainboard maker is MSI, who is also the number one graphics card manufacturer among all “Big Four” members, sold nearly 12.5 million of mainboards. Gigabyte Technology is the fourth with approximately 11.5 million, though, this company has highest gross margins among the mentioned competitors.

Of course, if we compare sales results of 2002, we will find out that ASUSTeK performed better than any other company mentioned here. Its revenues including Hua Ching subsidiary achieved $3.256 billion. For instance, Elitegroup Computer sales were nearly $1.87 billion, almost two times less compared to the rival. MSI and Gigabyte reported $1.63 billion and $863,8 million in sales respectively.

ASUS sells and OEMs mainboards, graphics cards, notebooks, communicational equipment, PC-barebones, PDAs, optical storage devices, servers and other products and components of the same kind. ECS manufactures mainboards, graphics cards, peripherals and portable computers, including notebook-barebones. MSI supplies mainboards, graphics cards, optical storage devices, servers, slim PCs and different accessories/peripherals. Gigabyte Technology sells mainboards, graphics cards, servers, communicational equipment and PC-barebones.
