| Date: 03/21/03 05:18:20 PM]We all know now that VIA KT400A chipset based mainboard is not really an interesting buy, as a next-step towards perfection, the KT600 system-logic and appropriate products, is just around the corner. Mainboard makers fully recognize our concerns and that may be a reason why some of them may abolish KT400A mainboards and wait for the more powerful Socket A chipset from VIA Technologies to come.
A Taiwanese web-site reported over here that ASUS is likely to postpone their VIA KT400A mainboard. It is also suggested that the company may have plans to launch VIA KT600-based mainboard in early May 2003. In case ASUS postpones its KT400A mainboard, the product will be presented on the market as the top Socket A solution from VIA for just a couple of weeks. Since ASUS’ mainboard on KT400A core-logic seems to be very advanced and expensive (see this news-story to learn more details), I doubt that a lot of customers will get the K7V400 simply because those, who are looking for the most high-end solution, will go with NVIDIA’s nForce2, while those, who are more price-conscious, will try to find something cheaper. As a result, if ASUS sees that the demand on KT400A mainboards is not so high, it will simply abolish its A7V400 to go straight with VIA KT600 chipset.
The information is unofficial and even if has something to do with the truth now, may be inaccurate in future depending on market conditions.
