Recent settlement with Intel indisputably opened many doors for VIA Technologies. As our sources in Gigabyte noted today, the company will shortly officially unveil a number of mainboards for Intel Pentium 4 processors based on core-logic from VIA Technologies.

As we managed to learn, Gigabyte Technology will very soon release its mainboard powered by VIA P4X400. Sometimes later, presumably this Summer, the company will launch a higher-end VIA PT800 solution. Even later Gigabyte will release a mainboard using VIA PT880 chipset, maybe in the fourth quarter or something like this, while in early 2004, the company plans to unleash a product using PT890 core-logic from Taipei, Taiwan-based developer. Depending on the model, mainboard will offer a lot of additional functions including advanced I/O, LAN and RAID capabilities.

Like all mainboards from Gigabyte, solutions mentioned above will be mostly retail and targeted on higher-end market segment. Indeed, it does not mean that Gigabyte will not offer anything more cost-effective powered by chipsets from VIA Technologies. According to our information, the company will also sell inexpensive mainboards for mass-market and even is considering some integrated platforms now.
