NVIDIA Corporation today officially launched its family of chipsets with 400MHz FSB support for AMD Athlon 3200+ Socket A processors. As visitors of X-bit labs knew for some time now, the new chipset family includes nForce2 Ultra 400 and nForce2 400 platform processors.
The nForce2 Ultra 400 SPP for enthusiast supports 200, 266, 333 and 400MHz FSB, up to 3GB of dual-channel PC2100, PC2700 or PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory, AGP 8x and has no integrated GeForce4 MX graphics. The same applies to the nForce2 400, however, this mainstream chipset does not support dual-channel memory and is targeted on the different segment of the market. As we revealed earlier, nForce2 Ultra 400 and nForce2 400 are presumably pin-to-pin compatible.
NVIDIA offers variety of its Media & Communication Processors to work with its IGPs and SPPs including the most advanced nForce2 MCP-T with Dolby-Digital Encoder, Dual LAN, USB 2.0, 2 ATA-33/66/100/133 and PCI support.
The Santa Clara, California-based core-logic and graphics processor developer claims that the pricing of the nForce2 400 will be really aggressive, which means hard-times for VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems. At this point NVIDIA says nForce2 400-based mainboards will be priced at about $70.
Mainboards featuring the NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 and NVIDIA nForce2 400 platform processors will be available shortly from ABIT Computer, Albatron Technology, AOpen, ASUSTeK Computer, Biostar Microtech, Chaintech Computer, DFI, EPoX International, FIC, Gigabyte Technology, Jetway Information, Leadtek, MiTAC, MSI, QDI/Legend, Shuttle Computer Group and Soltek Computer.
