Earlier this week we told you how to enable the Performance Acceleration Technology on i865PE-based mainboards from ASUS (see this news-story), but now we are going to reveal how you can transform an i865P mainboard into an i865PE mainboard!

Apparently, a number of mainboard manufacturers make their i865P and i865PE powered mainboards on the same PCBs. It means that the design of the products is identical and mainboards use nearly the same BIOS. As we know, the only difference between i865P and i865PE is the 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus support by the latter, however, some mainboard makers (for example, MSI) already offer their i865P-based mainboards with support of 800MHz QPB through overclocking. It means that the i865P still can operate stably in some cases when the fast PSB is used. What we managed to reveal is that if you flash your i865P mainboard with a BIOS from exactly the same mainboard, but on i865PE, you will get an “i865PE-based mainboard” with 800MHz Quap Pumped Bus support as well as dual-channel PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory. It will operate fast and stably while costing a bit less.

So far we have only tried this for mainboards from Gigabyte Technology; we cannot guarantee you will be able to achieve the same results with different mainboards.

NB! We in fact only provide this for your information and would not recommend you to re-flash your BIOS.
