Now that VIA Technologies has settled all the legal disputes with Intel, it obviously does not need to sell and promote its Pentium 4-supporting core-logic products via an own subsidiary since marketing divisions of its partners will certainly make their best to sell VIA-based products. According to DigiTimes web-site, the Taipei, Taiwan chipset company plans to stop selling mainboards designed for Intel Pentium 4 CPU via VPSD.

Reportedly, VIA Technologies will sell the existing stock of VPSD mainboards to another company, presumably FIC, in order to quickly reduce the level of such inventory. The only products sold under VPSD brand are likely to be mini-ITX devices with embedded C3 processors. According to unofficial sources, VIA may eventually offer a mini-ITX mainboard for Intel Pentium 4 processors, though, it is not yet confirmed. Since its establishment, the VPSD has sold over 100 thousands Pentium 4-intended and 50 to 60 thousands of EPIA mini-ITX mainboards on average every month, VIA said. Given very warm acceptance of SFF barebones nowadays, I would expect VPSD to launch this kind of products in addition to Pentium 4 mini-ITX solutions as well.

With VPSD going out from marketing mainboards, mainboard makers who used to produce devices for VPSD should concentrate on different ways of making business, while VIA itself will be able to concentrate on promoting its own mini-ITX platform as well as core-logic products.
