ASUSTeK Computer unveiled its WLAN network card made specifically for ASUS mainboards. The solution allows to quickly and easily establish IEEE 802.11b Wireless Local Area Networks using hardware and software provided by ASUS.

Readers familiar with mainboards from the world largest manufacturer know that all the latest and upcoming mainboards from ASUSTeK are equipped with a special slot designed specifically for WLAN adapter. The list of mainboards include such products as P4C800 Deluxe, P4C800, P4C800-E, P4P800 Deluxe, P4P800, P4P8X, P4P800S-E, P4P800S, P4S800D, P4S800, P4V800D, A7V600, K8V as well as upcoming models. Specifically for this slot ASUS now offers its IEEE 802.11b WLAN adapter for home or office as Access Point, Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc mode.

ASUS claims that its WiFi@Home device can function as Software Access Point (under Windows XP) supporting up to 31 terminals in 2.40 ~ 2.50GHz frequency band. The ASUS WLAN card can cover up to 30 meters in buildings and up to 300 meters in open space.

Last year ASUS also unveiled an initiative to offer a WLAN and Bluetooth devices for its BlueMagic PCI slot found on certain mainboards and even leaked some details into the web (see this news-story). Actual products have never seen the light of day, though.

Pricing and availability of ASUS’ WLAN module were not touched upon.
