Gigabyte Technology, a leading manufacturer of mainboards, this week introduced its new Z77X-UP7 mainboard specifically designed for overclockers. The flagship motherboard features 32+3+2 power phase design featuring Ultra Durable 5 technology as well as a number of other innovations designed to guarantee stable operation during overclocking.

“With the Z77X-UP7 and its 32+3+2 power phase design featuring Ultra Durable 5 technology, we have created the very best CPU power design of any motherboard available today. Not only does this help extreme overclockers to reach 7GHz+ on their Intel Core i7-3770K CPUs and take down benchmark records, but it also provides system integrators with a platform cool and stable enough to withstand the rigors of an always-on, overclocked water cooled system for their customers,” said HiCookie, an in-house overclocking expert at Gigabyte.

Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 mainboard is based on Intel Z77 core-logic set and is designed for Intel Core i-series "Ivy Bridge" and "Sandy Bridge" central processing units in LGA1155 form-factors. The platform supports up to four PCI Express x16 graphics cards (plus one PCIe 3.0 slot that connects directly to microprocessor) and up to four DDR3 memory modules.

Being specifically designed for overclockers, the Z77X-UP7 features onboard OC-Touch buttons that allow overclockers to manually adjust the CPU ratio, BCLK settings as well as adjustments to the BCLK stepping ratio, to either 1MHz or 0.3MHz increments. These changes can be made in real-time, whether in BIOS, DOS, or Windows without the need for rebooting, so that users can quickly fine-tune their system and find their CPU’s maximum frequency. Onboard voltage measurement modules are also included to help users to conveniently monitor individual component voltages and onboard LN2 Mode switch allows users to quickly drop CPU frequency to x16 multiplier during extreme overclocking so that opening benching applications such as CPU-Z will not cause the overclock to fail.

Like other premium mainboards from the company, the Z77X-UP7 features Gigabyte Ultra Durable 5 technology, which includes high current capable components for the microprocessor power zone, including the IR3550 PowIRstage ICs from International Rectifier, 2x copper printed-circuit boards and high current ferrite core chokes rated up to 60A which together are able to deliver up to 60°C cooler temperatures than traditional motherboards, according to the company.


Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 is projected to reach the market shortly. Pricing will vary in different regions.

Medium range motherboard, which is slower than X79-chipped Formula 4, even if the CPU speed was 2 Ghz higher.

Oh man this is just crazy , 32 Phase power and 2x8 pin power on the CPU . Now this is a board for the overclockers if there was ever need for one !
