QDI’s Upcoming Mainboards for Intel and AMD Processors

We are ready to bring you more and more roadmaps from mainboard makers. This time Legend QDI decided to share its plans with X-bit labs.

What is really interesting to note about all the roadmaps I have seen for the last few weeks is that they all contained both Socket 478 mainboards powered by Springdale and sometimes even Canterwood chipsets as well as Socket 754 devices for Athlon 64 processors that will not be available for almost half a year from now. For instance, Legend QDI will offer three mainboards on three different chipsets, according to the information we have here:

K8A8000: AMD 8151 + 8111; 2 DIMM slots for PC2100 or PC2700 memory; AGP 8x, 5 PCI slots; 2-channel ATA-33/66/100; optional Serial ATA-150 support; optional 6 USB 2.0 ports; 10/100Mb/s Ethernet controller; ATX.

K8V400M: VIA K8T400M + VT8237; VT; 2 DIMM slots for PC2100 or PC2700 memory; AGP 8x, 5 PCI slots; 2-channel ATA-33/66/100; Serial ATA-150 support; 8 USB 2.0 ports; 10/100Mb/s Ethernet controller; ATX.

K8L8000: AMD8151 + Ali1563; 2 DIMM slots for PC2100 or PC2700 memory; AGP 8x, 5 PCI slots; 2-channel ATA-33/66/100; optional Serial ATA-150 support; 6 USB 2.0 ports; 10/100Mb/s Ethernet controller; ATX.

Since Legend QDI is not alone with its Socket 754 mainboards that are ready to be shipped by the end of the second quarter, does it mean that mainboard makers are looking forward to launch such products as soon as possible? Maybe, as every new platform means higher gross margins for manufacturers. As the Athlon 64 is probably one of the highest-anticipated CPUs, mainboards for such chips should be in demand when AMD finally launches them. On the other hand, if the quantities of Athlon 64 processors are not sufficient, mainboard makers will have to slash the prices on the products in order to sell them what will cause the gross margins to decrease.

Well, maybe Athlon 64 is a bit too far from now, so, let us get back to our days. The hero of the chipset market, the Springdale that is also our hero of the day, is going to be very popular because all mainboard makers are going to offer us numerous products using this core-logic. Legend QDI is not a exception here, take a look:
