Looks like a lot, if not all, mainboard makers now try to provide a new life to their present-generation products. ASUS now offers its customers to download new BIOS for its famous P4PE mainboard to add 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus support for i845PE-based solutions.

Lucky owners of ASUS’ P4PE-series can now head over here, download new BIOS version, install it following instructions provided by the company and acquire one of the new Pentium 4 chips with 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus support.

Intel’s 845PE chipset supports the Hyper-Threading technology and mainboards on its base usually are made following FMB2 guidelines for Northwood processors, hence, ASUS’ P4PE as well as other mainboards based on the same core-logic can probably work with Pentium 4 3.0 as well as 3.20GHz and maybe even faster processors.

Note that you will need to have a quality PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory module to be able to use 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus on ASUS P4PE-series.
