A web-site covering different information about AMD microprocessors, platforms and based solutions has published preliminary specifications of TYAN Thunder K8-S4880 – the first mainboard for quad AMD Opteron configurations from TYAN.
So far TYAN has been offering only 2P mainboards for AMD Opteron processors, but it looks like the company has plans to offer at least one innovative model for quad-processor servers eventually. The mainboard will be based on AMD’s 8131 and 8111 chips, will support up to 20GB of DDR SDRAM memory in dual-channel mode and will allow building feature-rich server machines based on up to 4 64-bit processors from AMD.
Here are the specifications listed by AMDBoard.com:
Additional information about the product was not available at press time. TYAN has not made any official statements about the Thunder K8-S4880 so far.
