In a bid to further popularize the Eee brand among different types of end-users, Asustek Computer has reportedly decided to add mainboards into the lineup. The reasons for the decision are completely unclear since Asus Eee is mainly associated with finished products, not components.

Asustek Computer has been expanding the Eee family of products for several quarters now by offering wider range of Eee PC netbooks and introducing small form-factor Eee Box desktop. In addition, the firm is projected to release iMac-like all-in-one desktop as well as Eee HDTV. All of the products are fully functional out-of-the-box.

According to a news-story at DigiTimes, Asustek also plans to add a mainboard lineup into Eee family. Given that motherboards are just components, Asus Eee mainboards will hardly fit into existing conception for Eee – easy-to-use and inexpensive fully-functional personal computers.

While addition of Eee-branded mainboards may attract additional attention to the trademark, the reasons for Asus to release such products are completely unclear.

Asustek did not comment on the news-story.
