Gigabyte to Install Liquid-Cooling-Capable Components onto Intel Z87 G1 Killer Mainboard

Gigabyte Readies Overclocking-Friendly Platform for Intel Core i “Haswell” Microprocessors

Gigabyte Technology, one of the world’s largest makers of mainboards, is working on G1 Killer Z87 mainboard that would combine features for gamers as well as for overclockers. The platform will come with advanced components and will come with passive cooling solutions that will be liquid-cooling capable. In addition, Gigabyte is developing GA-Z87X-OC mainboard for extreme overclockers.

 

Gigabyte G1 Killer Z87 mainboard is based on Intel Z87 core-logic set and designed for Intel Core i-series 4000-family “Haswell” microprocessors in LGA1150 packaging. The mainboard will come with gold-plated audio, DisplayPort and HDMI connectors; will feature Creative Labs Sound Core3D audio chip onboard and other gamer-oriented capabilities. In order to satisfy overclocking enthusiasts, Gigabyte will equip the mainboard with advanced components (which are collectively called Ultra Durable 5) as well as heatsinks that are ready for liquid cooling, according to a teaser that the company has published.

In addition to Gigabyte G1 Killer Z87 motherboard for gamers, the company is also developing GA-Z87X-OC mainboard for extreme overclockers that will feature EATX form-factor and will be optimized not only for liquid cooling, but also for liquid nitrogen cooling. The platform will feature various knobs and switches directly on the mainboard so that to set up speeds without going to BIOS.

Expect both mainboards to utilized the IR3550 PowIRstage ICs from International Rectifier, 2x copper printed-circuit boards and high CPU power supply circuitry with current ferrite core chokes rated up to 60A, which together are able to deliver up to 60°C cooler temperatures than traditional motherboards.

Gigabyte, as well as other manufacturers, will introduce their Intel Z87-based mainboards for Haswell microprocessors sometimes in late May or early June.
