Micron Technology today confirmed that it plans to fully withdraw from high-end SRAM business and fully dedicate itself to volume DRAM manufacturing and distributing. The Boise, Idaho-based company said today that it plans to sell its SRAM inventory as well as customer base to Cypress Semiconductor Corporation.

SRAM is typically used as cache memory in devices where it is required. Intel and AMD used to utilise such type of memory in their Pentium II, Pentium III and Athlon processors, while nowadays most of SRAM inventory goes to companies who deal with communication equipment as well as some other manufacturers of higher-end devices.

Micron Technology will transfer its high-performance communications oriented synchronous SRAM product inventory to Cypress Semiconductor who will now market the products.
