Patriot Memory, a leading supplier of various memory products, has unveiled its active cooling system for memory modules that is designed to improve overclocking potential and stability of high-speed memory devices inside computer enthusiasts' personal computers (PCs)

"Patriot's Vortex active cooling fan is the perfect way to help keep your memory operating at optimal performance. Heat is a major enemy when it comes to high-performance overclocking memory. By adding airflow directly over the memory, Vortex can lower module temperatures up to 30%. This means potentially higher performing memory with increased stability for running today's complex multi-threaded applications which require high-bandwidth, low-latency memory," said Les Henry, technical director of Patriot Memory.

Patriot's Vortex uses am in-slot and rotating fan design to direct the airflow in the most effective way for each individual system. The cooling solution utilizes an un-used DIMM slot, which reduces vibration of memory modules, but does not allow to install more than two modules. The Patriot Vortex features two 40mm fans that spin with the speed of 5000rpm, hence, may produce noticeable noise.

At present only Corsair Memory utilizes active cooling for its memory modules, whereas OCZ Technology proposes to use liquid cooling in order to boost clock-speed of its DDR2 and DDR3 products to the extremes.

Currently is is unclear whether Patriot Vortex is set to be available separately, or will be shipped with a new series of memory modules by the company.
