As I have learned over here, GEiL (Golden Emperor International Ltd) exposes its flagman DDR SDRAM memory modules functioning at 466MHz at Comdex Fall.

The product can provide about 3.7GB/s bandwidth and GEiL calls their modules as PC3700, although, it is not correct because there is no such standard approved by JEDEC committee. The product is aimed mostly on overclockers and hardware enthusiasts, who do not usually concern any standards and try to increase the performance of their computers with any means despite of all warnings. I assume that GEiLs new modules will definitely become rather popular among computer geeks, who usually buy the most powerful hardware available.

GEiL demonstrated their new products in a system powered by Intel Pentium 4 2260@2975MHz (175MHz x 19) processor, Intel E7205 based mainboard and ATI RADEON 9700 PRO graphics card. Of course, such personal computer easily outperformed any PC with RDRAM or PC2700 memory scoring 17 000 marks in 3Dmark 2001SE.

Currently 256MB module of DDR433 memory cost about $95 at Pricewatch, while PC1066 RDRAM 256MB device is priced at $105, according to the search-engine. I assume that 256MB of DDR466 memory are going to cost more than $95 and more than $105; furthermore, one should keep in mind that in order to show maximum performance, your system should be overclocked so that DDR466 memory is able to fully show its potential. I wonder what will happen if we overclock RDRAM memory? At least, there will also be a significant performance gain there and for less money so to say.
