Infineon’s Chairman Ulrich Schumacher yesterday met with executives from ProMOS and officials from the Taiwanese government to talk about future of ProMOS with the former and about continual investing in Taiwan by Munich-based DRAM maker with the latter. After the meetings Taiwanese press started to publish unofficial information, based on the talks with anonymous sources in Mosel Vitelic and ProMOS, that soon Infineon and ProMOS are likely to sing another partner agreement, though, Mr. Ulrich Schumacher denied the rumours and said that the only topic he discussed with representatives from Mosel Vitelic was the termination of all relations.
The Chairman of Infineon stated that the company is about to cancel all relations with ProMOS as well, also reminding journalists that presently Infineon’s number one partner in Taiwan is Nanya. The final resolution with ProMOS will appear in March, according to Mr. Schumacher. He also said that Infineon still has nearly 30% stake in ProMOS and does not want to damage the company at this point. This means that it simple will not insist on technology license withdraw from ProMOS, at least, before it sells the last share of the Taiwanese memory maker. <%BANNER[article]%>
Earlier this year ProMOS reportedly signed a deal with Elpida, involving 90nm and below technologies and the establishment of a 300mm joint venture in Taiwan (see this news-story). Since Infineon itself established joint venture with Nanya called Hwaya Semiconductor and now builds 50:50 300mm fab (see this news-story), it definitely is not so interested in long-term relations with ProMOS anymore.
