Infineon Unleashes its First DDR-II SDRAM Chips

Infineon announced it has manufactured first engineering samples of its DDR-II SDRAM memory chips using 0.11 micron process technology.

The chips have been configured as quad-bank DRAMs and will be available in x4, x8 and x16 organizations. Infineon plans to eventually manufacture 400, 533 and 667MHz DDR-II SDRAM memory products. Mass production is expected to begin next year, though, it is not clear whether in the first or in the second half of the year. For instance, during the recent Platform Conference it was said by participants that massive DDR-II SDRAM-based platforms appearance will take place in 2005, a year later than it was originally scheduled in the past (see this news-story).

Samsung and Elpida memory have been sampling DDR-II SDRAM devices since mid-2002.
