Samsung Electronics today said that it has begun mass production of 576Mb RDRAM memory chips clocked at 600MHz (1200Mbps). The DRAMs are made positioned for supercomputers and high-end servers and network systems, not personal computers, workstations or servers.

The new memory chips are manufactured using 0.11 micron fabrication process. This kind of RDRAM memory can provide the highest peak memory bandwidth on the planet, up to 9.60GB/s in quad-channel mode. The 576Mb RDRAM-based modules with ECC are available in densities of up to 1GB in a wide selection of memory module options including: 16-bit RIMM, 32-bit RIMM, SoRIMM, NexMod, and 4-channel RIMM, Samsung claimed today.

The company said nothing about the cost of such memory and systems equipped with the PC1200 RDRAM with quad-channel memory controller; given that the products are offered specifically for supercomputers and communication applications, the cost is not a very important factor there.
