Corsair Demonstrates DDR-II Memory Modules!

Corsair Memory is showcasing its upcoming DDR-II memory modules at an exhibition in Tokyo, Japan, Akiba PC Hotline web-sites reports. The demonstration of a next-generation product may indicate Corsair’s readiness to start supplying DDR-II memory modules as soon as the market requires it.

Corsair calls its innovative DDR-II memory modules as XMS2 – eXtreme Memory Speed 2 implying on some additional potential its products may have over competing solutions. Originally XMS2 memory modules were meant to be publicly shown off for the first time at Spring Intel Developers’ Forum in San Francisco February 17-19, 2004, but we see that some Engineering Samples of PC2-4300 sticks made it to the world even earlier.

At first 240-pin DDR-II memory modules will be available in two flavours: PC2-3200 (400MHz) and PC2-4300 (533MHz). Expect well-known memory vendors to demonstrate their DDR-II products during IDF, CeBIT and other shows scheduled to happen this Spring.

Chipset developer VIA Technologies is projected to be the first company to announce a core-logic supporting DDR-II and enable mainboard makers with a bit doubtful, but quite an exciting option to manufacture platforms for the new type of memory. Intel Corporation and Silicon Integrated Systems will launch their DDR-II-supporting solutions in the second quarter of the year.
