Samsung Electronics has retained its top spot among dynamic random access memory (DRAM) suppliers in the second quarter of 2006, according to a study released by DRAMeXchange market research company. According to the firm, during the quarter leading makers of memory continued to solidify their positions, while smaller makers’ market share dropped.
<%BANNER[article]%>DRAM market revenues increased by 14.5% sequentially in the second quarter with the fastest growing DRAM companies in the industry being Hynix, Elpida, ProMOS and Winbond.

Korean manufacturers still acquire the largest market share, reaching 41.9%, while Taiwan DRAM makers come in second, accounting for 17.9%.
As Samsung, Hynix, Micron and other relevant companies focus on Flash, CMOS Image Sensor and so forth in their product lineup; only Taiwan DRAM makers are seen expanding their DRAM production capacity in 2007. Therefore, its sales revenue ratio is expected to continue growing in the future, believe DRAMeXchange analysts.
