OCZ Reveals 4GB Memory Module Kits for Enthusiasts

A leading supplier of hardware aimed at gamers and enthusiasts, OCZ Technology Group, on Tuesday announced its 4GB memory module kits capable of operating at relatively high clock-speeds. The new products are mainly oriented at customers using Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit version.

“With the arrival of Vista consumers will now be able to take advantage of a new level of multimedia, gaming, and productivity when paired with the right hardware,” commented Jacky Huang, vice president of product management, OCZ Technology. “

OCZ’s DDR2 PC2-5400 “Vista Upgrade” 2GB memory modules and 4GB matched-pairs are capable of operating at 667MHz with CL5 5-5-15 latency settings and 1.8V voltage that can be increased to 1.85V without voiding warranty. In addition, OCZ unveiled DDR2 PC2-6400 “Vista Upgrade” 1GB modules and 2GB kits that can operate at 800MHz with CL5 5-5-15 latency settings.

Even though 667MHz frequency may not seem high enough, as several companies already supply 1200MHz 2GB memory module kits, it should be kept in mind that 4GB kits use higher amount of memory chips and it is harder to overclock many chips at once or high-density devices that are made with pretty conservative specs. In fact, OCZ is one of the first memory module suppliers who are ready to ship 2GB modules with 667MHz clock-speed.

Pricing of the new modules and matched pairs has not been announced.
