Traditionally, Intel Corp.’s microprocessors benefited considerably from high memory frequencies, whereas chips from Advanced Micro Devices did not benefit noticeably, which is why there are loads of Intel-oriented memory modules and not a lot of them designed for AMD processors. Corsair Memory on Wednesday decided to change that and release Dominator GT modules for AMD Phenom II platforms.

The first Dominator GT 4GB memory module kits for AMD Phenom II-based systems will operate at 1600MHz with CL6 6-6-18 latency settings and 1T command rate. The 1600MHz Dominator GT also supports AMD’s Black Edition Memory Profiles (B.E.M.P), which allows for the aggressive latency settings to be automatically configured in Windows using the AMD OverDrive software utility.

In fact, Corsair already sells 2GB memory modules with aforementioned performance characteristics under Dominator GT brand, but those modules are aimed at Intel Core i7 systems and are sold in three pieces per package (due to triple-channel memory controller of Core i7 900-series chips), whereas the AMD-oriented modules will be available in dual-channel matched pairs.

"Corsair’s Dominator line has long been the memory of choice for PC enthusiasts and gamers. The new Dominator GT family for platforms with AM3-based AMD Phenom II processors delivers even greater levels of performance, as well as enhanced cooling options, making it the perfect memory for anyone looking for the fastest possible performance from their AM3 AMD Phenom II processor-based system," said Jim Carlton, vice president of marketing at Corsair.

Corsair Dominator memory modules utilize the company’s proprietary dual-path heat eXchange (DHX) radiators that cool down memory chips from the back and from the front, like any conventional heat-spreaders, as well as take the heat away from print-circuit board (PCB), which incorporates some additional elements to remove heat from BGA memory chips. In addition to that, Corsair offers to install airflow fan, thermo-electric or liquid cooling systems.

Because the demand towards Dominator GT modules for AMD Phenom II platforms is virtually unpredictable, the Dominator GT dual-channel kit will be available only through the exclusive Corsair online store.
