NVIDIA’s GeForce 6800 Go Suddenly Found in a Notebook.

Eurocom, a Canada-based notebook maker, earlier this week unveiled a desktop replacement laptop that uses Intel Pentium 4 processor along with NVIDIA’s GeForce 6800 Go graphics chip, an unannounced mobile graphics processing unit from NVIDIA Corp.

Eurocom’s D900T Phantom is one of the first notebooks to be based on a PCI Express interconnection and DDR2 memory supporting Intel’s 915P chipset. The company also plans to enable up to 3.60GHz processors and up to 320GB HDDs into the new machine. While initially Eurocom referred the graphics chip as “NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Go”, it then changed the term to “Upgradeable 256MB DDR2 PCI Express x16 graphics by NVIDIA with HDTV output”, but the D900T's description page still included NVIDIA GeForce 6800 logotype.

An NVIDIA spokeswoman Diane Vanasse declined to comment on the GeForce 6800 Go products, as it was unannounced by press time.

Earlier this year NVIDIA said it was the only graphics processing unit manufacturer on the PCI-SIG Integrators List, and has a full range of NVIDIA products listed, including the GeForce 6800-series, GeForce PCX-series, Quadro FX-series, Quadro NVS-series as well as yet to be unveiled code-named NV43 and NV41 families of graphics processors designed for workstations, desktops, and notebook computers.

Some sources refer the code-named NV41M product as the GeForce 6800 Go visual processing unit by NVIDIA Corp.. It is unclear when the new mobile visual processing unit from NVIDIA is to be announced, but Eurocom said its D900T Phantom will ship on October, 15, 2004.

The GeForce 6800-series of graphics processing units contain 16 or 12 pixel pipelines, 6 or 5 vertex pipelines and supports a number of new graphics technologies, such as Shader Model 3.0, that improve efficiency and allow certain new graphics effects. The GeForce 6800 Ultra GPU is currently rated as one of the fastest graphics cards in the world.

Representatives for Eurocom did not return enquiries seeking for comments.
