Cell phone maker Motorola, operator Cingular Wireless and Apple Computer plan to unveil next week a mobile phone and supporting service that will allow users to acquire and playback music from Apple’s iTunes music store.

“Industry sources tell me that there will be a joint announcement between Motorola, Apple and Cingular announcing the launch of a branded Cingular offer with iTunes,” Ovum analyst Roger Entner said, Reuters reports.

All three companies are expected to benefit from the move, if the report turns out to be correct. Motorola will gain an exclusive capability not present on cell phones from competitors, which is likely to spur music lovers to acquire certain Motorola handsets. Cingular Wireless, the top wireless operator in the U.S., may expect higher spending by its clients, who will acquire music from Apple’s iTunes store. Apple is also interested in selling more tracks to any customers.

Peculiarities and specifications of iTunes-compatible products from Motorola were not touched upon, but the actual unveiling may be scheduled for September 7, 2005.

Apple and Motorola indicated back last Summer they were working on bringing the popular iTunes music download service to mobile phones. Last month, Motorola said the device would go on sale by the end of September, despite speculation among analysts that mobile operators were not interested in selling the device, according to Reuters.

Earlier this year Motorola disclosed plans to bring handsets and headsets designed for Skype, a software that allows to make voice calls via the Internet.
