In an unexpected move, Apple Computer unveiled its new lineup of notebooks running x86 processors and designed for performance-demanding customers. The fresh MacBook Pro family of laptops is also based on Intel’s dual-core Core Duo processors and 15.4” widescreen displays.

“MacBook Pro delivers dual-processor desktop performance in a thin, sleek notebook,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive. “The new MacBook Pro, with its Intel Core Duo dual-core processor, delivers the performance of not just one, but two G5 processors in the world’s most stunning one inch thin design.”

The Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops are available with 1.67GHz and 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processors each containing two processing engines and virtually bringing dual-processor performance to mobile computers. The fresh mobile computers from apple feature 1440x960 screen resolution, built-in iSight webcam, gigabit Ethernet, 54Mb/s wireless network controller, Bluetooth 2.0 as well as Apple’s SuperDrive (CD/DVD burner). Depending on the model, the notebooks come with either 512MB of 1GB (single-channel mode) of PC2-5300, 80GB or 100GB 5400rpm (7200rpm is an option) hard disk drives and Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics adapter with 128MB or 256MB of memory.

The new MacBook Pro computers are relatively thin – about 1” (2.59cm) thick and relatively light: 5.6 pounds (2.54 kilograms). MacBook Pro comes in a refined design compared to the PowerBook laptops.

A new distinctive feature of the Apple MacBook Pro its new power adapter with MagSafe connector: a magnetic connection that breaks cleanly away when accidentally stepping onto a power cord, something which may save notebook’s valuable data and the machine itself.

Every new MacBook Pro comes with the latest release of the world’s most advanced operating system, Mac OS X version 10.4.4 “Tiger” including Safari, Mail, iCal, iChat AV, Front Row and Photo Booth, running natively on Apple’s first Intel-based notebook.

Pricing of 1.67GHz MacBook Pro starts at $1999, whereas the 1.83GHz flavour will be available for the price starts at $2499.
