Apple, the producer of the world’s most successful digital media player, may release its smartphone as early as in June, according to comments made by executives of its partner in the U.S. The launch will proceed according to promised of Apple, who showcased the iPhone in January.

“Our expectations are good. Our testing has been good. The iPhone is on target to launch in June. The iPhone is on target to launch in June,” said AT&T chief operating officer Randall Stephenson.

AT&T is the owner of Cingular, the largest cell phone network in the U.S. and the only seller of Apple iPhone in the USA.

“We got a million people waiting to buy it so we’re hoping we get a million,” Mr. Stephenson according to Reuters news-agency.

Apple iPhone is equipped with touch-screen instead of keypad, something never before available on handhelds. Besides, Apple iPhone includes support for quad-band GSM, EDGE, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR wireless technologies. The iPhone features a 2 megapixel (2MP) camera and a photo management application. The iPhone, however, is not small: it features a 3.5” screen that makes the device a relatively bulky.

Apple iPhone will be available in the U.S. in June 2007, Europe in late 2007, and Asia in 2008, in a 4GB model for $499 (USA) and an 8GB model for $599 (USA), and will work with either a PC or Mac. Apple said that a contract will be required to acquire the iPhone at the aforementioned prices.

Maybe on Mars, here on Earth I have been using IPAQ h6340 for years. There are dozens of phones with touchscreen, I really dont understand, its like saying new Toshiba laptop is equiped with LCD screen, something never before available on laptops.

The iPhone is not the first phone to use a touchscreen instead of a keypad... my Motorola A1200 has a touchscreen, and no keypad and its already 6 months old.... It has every single feature the iPhone has except for Wi-Fi and costs right now U$360 on eBay and its UNLOCKEd, not restricted to CIngular only. Plus the fact you can use a 2 Gb microSD card for your music....all of a sudden the iPhone doesn't seem such a breakthrough, plus the fact that the battery is soldered to the phone....mmmm I'll stick to my A1200.

There are already a number of so-called iPhone applications in beta stages that you can test on supported browsers like Safari, IE7 and Firefox
