Dell on Thursday unveiled its new laptop that features two graphics processors as well as physics accelerator from Ageia. The system is aimed at hardcore gamers who want to have the best possible gaming experience even when they are not near their premium desktops. However, the weight of such computer will hardly allow carrying the device every time and everywhere.
“Dell is committed to the creation of PCs that will take hardcore gamers to new frontiers. The XPS M1730 engineering team worked with developers on leading titles such as The Orange Box from Valve’s Half Life 2 and 2K Games’ BioShock to help ensure this notebook can deliver the full-throttle power required for the most anticipated PC games,” said Glen Robson, head of Dell’s XPS systems.
The new Dell XPS M1730 comes with 17” screen with 1920x1200 resolution and is based on Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20GHz, 4MB cache, 800MHz processor system bus) or Intel Core 2 Duo X7900 (2.80GHz) and comes equipped with 2GB of dual-channel PC2-5300 (667MHz) memory, two Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT graphics processing units with 256MB of memory for each, Ageia PhysX 100M accelerator, 200GB hard disk drive with 7200rpm motors, 802.11a/g/n network controller, Bluetooth 2.0 module, embedded webcam and microphone.
Dell engineered the XPS M1730 chassis to handle the thermal and power requirements of the most powerful next-generation graphics technology. Dell said it will offer a graphics upgrade program when next-generation graphics processors are available, meaning that eventually owners of the XPS M1730 will be able to get more advanced graphics cards than Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT are and get considerably higher graphics performance.

Other features of the XPS M1730 include a backlit keyboard with separate 10-key number pad and support for Dell’s LightFX application, allowing users and developers to manipulate the system’s multi-colored perimeter lighting LEDs, which resembles a capability of Philips amBX technologies.
Available immediately, the XPS M1730 is the world’s first notebook to incorporate Ageia PhysX mobile technology. Even though not many games take advantage of PhysX today, hardcore gamers may appreciate having the chip installed in their premium-class notebook.
Pricing of the notebook starts at $2999.
