One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) non profit organization has extended its offering to residents of Canada and the USA to buy one XO laptop to a child in a developing country and get one such laptop to himself/herself. Additionally, for those who participate in the program T-Mobile will offer one year free Wi-Fi hotspots access.

From now through December 31, 2007, OLPC is offering a Give One Get One (G1G1) program in the United States and Canada. For a donation of $399, one XO laptop will be sent to empower a child in a developing nation and one will be sent to the buyer. $200 of the donation is tax-deductible. For all U.S. donors who participate in the Give One Get One program, T-Mobile is also offering one year of complimentary HotSpot access.

Earlier this year it was projected that OLPC’s G1G1 promotion will only run till November 30, 2007. However, due to the fact that production of XO notebooks started later than expected and not all potentially interested customers donated, it was decided to extend the campaign.

Current OLPC XO laptop features AMD Geode LX-700 processor with 433MHz clock-speed and built-in graphics controller, 256MB of PC-2100 (DDR 266MHz) memory, 1GB NAND flash that substitutes hard disk drive, 7.5” screen with 1200x900 resolution, wireless and wired network adapters as well as integrated webcam, microphone, speakers and so on.

The non profit organization also reminds potential donors that quantities of OLPC XO are limited. As a result, not everyone may get the XO in time for holidays.

“Please be aware that we will make every effort to deliver the XO laptops by the holidays, but quantities are limited. Early purchasers have the best chance of receiving their XO laptops in time for the holidays, but we cannot guarantee timing,” a statement from OLPC reads.
